The decision was announced by means of the most recent emergency decree approved by the Government of Italy, which will enter into force on Thursday 10 December. Under the new regulation, approved on 3 December, EU travelers would have to show a negative test result to their airline/travel provider within the last 48 hours prior to the start of their trip to Italy. For a period of two weeks, any who fail to fulfill this condition will have to self-isolate. At present, only travelers from Belgium, France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Romania, Spain and the United Kingdom have to be checked or self-isolated until 9 December upon arrival in Italy. At the same time, all cruises leaving, resting or arriving at Italian ports are also suspended from 21 December until 6 January.
